New Frontiers in Biomedical Research Seminar talk by Dr. Karen Kashmanian Oates

The Waggonner Center is sponsoring a talk by Dr. Karen Kashmanian Oates for the New Frontiers in Biomedical Research Seminar Series on December 12, 2016 at 3:30 pm in University Hall. Dr. Oates talk, entitled "The Obligation of Knowledge," will speak on her involvement in promoting civic engagement and responsiblity of scientists.

Dr. Oates is Professor of Biochemistry and Dean of Arts & Sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts. Before joining Worcester Polytechnic, she served as the deputy director for undergraduate education at the National Science Foundation. She was also the founding provost at Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, associate dean and director at George Mason University, and the co-P.I. on a large, national dissemination grant entitled Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsiblities (SENCER).

The New Frontiers in Biomedical Research Seminar Series features interdisciplinary collaborations and research discussion with some of the nation's most renowned scientists and speakers. The series is led and orgnaized by Dr. Jamie Newman, assistant professor of biological sciences and the Scott Weathersby Endowed Professor of Zoology and Premedicine, and Dr. Mary Caldorera-Moore, assistant professor of biomedical enginnering in the College of Enginnering and Science.
